This YI 3 Axis Gimbal Stabilizer review will take a look at the gimbal and help you to decide if it’s the right choice for you and your action-adventures!
Introduction – Who is This For?
If you enjoy extreme sports, then there’s a good chance that you enjoy just how much they make you feel like a Superhero. If it’s a choice between sitting bored at work and typing on a computer, vegging out in front of the television, or hurtling down the side of a mountain… well then it’s the latter that’s always going to sound more awesome.
With that in mind then, you might also be interested in some of the technology that you can use to get even more fun from your extreme sports. After all, Batman would only be half as awesome without his gadgets and vehicles and the same goes for Bond.
This is why so many extreme sports enthusiasts love their GoPros. A GoPro camera is a camera that you can attach to any piece of equipment including a helmet or a bicycle in order to capture footage of the action. This is a great way to capture footage of the action in stunning HD and using an ideal wide FOV lens. GoPros of course are also incredibly durable as well as being water proof and dust proof. This means you can fall off your bike into the mud or attach it to the front of your surf board and not worry about it getting damaged.
But to get the most out of a GoPro, you should also get a gimbal. This steadies the image and ensures that the footage looks cinematic and professional – instead of jerky and nausea-inducing. The YI 3 Axis Gimbal is just such a product – but it is a little different in that it comes packaged with a camera and various other accessories.
Specifically, you can buy the gimbal with the YI 4K Action Camera, and potentially a whole host of other interesting accessories – like a waterproof case, or memory card.
So for those that don’t yet have a GoPro, but know they will want a gimbal to go with their action camera – buying one of these sets offers a compelling and interesting alternative. In this YI 3 Axis Gimbal review though, we will be focusing on the gimbal itself.
This gimbal works on three axes as the name suggests and also has three operating modes. It provides excellent stabilization when you use it for extreme sports, and in our tests it was particularly good at ironing out those unwanted jerks and movements that can ruin an otherwise great piece of footage. The gimbal is capable of rotating a full 360 degrees.
The gimbal is of course designed to work best with the bundled camera – but it can work just as well with a whole host of other cameras, including GoPros.
This gimbal has a universal ¼” thread, meaning it will easily attach to a wide range of mounts. That means you can stick it on the front of your rally car, surf board, or whatever other tool you use!
It also has the ability to do all kinds of specific motions – it can pan and tilt for instance. This means you can use it manually to create some beautiful panning shots of the scenery, or interesting motion shots of your equipment. It’s a film-makers dream in other words – and it really does work incredibly well for the price.
This also comes with a selfie-stick set up and can be used perfectly for capturing selfies. While that may not be your main aim, it’s great to have this option included.
