Hoverboards – also known as self-balancing scooters – are the two wheeled wonders that you have likely seen popping up on the sidewalks and on social media. They allow a person to move at speeds ranging from around 6-12mph in a hands-free manner, simply by leaning their bodies in the direction that they want to go. The result is a mode of transport that is incredibly good fun and that looks really cool as well.
These make fantastic gifts for friends and relatives or a great toy for yourself. But with lots of different models out there, how do you know which one to go for? Let’s take a look at the HOVERZON XLS.
Design and Appearance
To look at, the HOVERZON makes a good impression. It comes in four bold colors (red, black, white, and blue) and has a glossy finish. It also looks very well made, if a little generic compared with a couple of other models.
The main question to ask if you’re considering this as a purchase for kids, is whether or not they’re going to like being seen on it. And you can rest assured that the HOVERZON XLS is a solid looking unit.
What really matters though is how the thing performs. You’re not going to be hanging it on your wall after all!
So how does the HOVERZON stack up?
Well first of all, it has a top speed of 8mph. That’s not the fastest but it’s also not the slowest – this is a very middle-of-the-road speed that is pretty average.
Unfortunately, there is no information regarding the official battery life, but in our tests it seemed to last a very average duration compared with the competition. What we do know, is that it is capable of travelling up to 11 miles – so it should go for at least over an hour (which is the rough benchmark to keep in mind).
Also important is the amount of weight that a hoverboard can hold. This one is able to take a maximum load of 220lbs and a minimum of 44lbs.
The ride itself is very smooth and pleasant and on the whole, we were very big fans of this model.
A lot of hoverboards are pretty generic in terms of their design and features, which is why it is very nice here to find a product that has something a little different to set it apart. Specifically, the HOVERZON comes with a Bluetooth speaker, that allows you to enjoy your music on the go.
Sounds like a small thing, but almost all of us like listening to music in the car. If you plan on using this to run to the shops, or even to handle your commute into work, then why not put on some tunes at the same time? This can also be a great option for hanging out with friends. If this is a scooter for a kid and they want to take it to the skate park for instance, then it will be a great option for them to be able to put on some music while they all relax.
Another useful feature is the inclusion of an LED indicator, so that you know how much charge is left in the battery. A small thing maybe, but again it can make a very big difference.
